This plan outlines procedures to follow in the event of an emergency during a club activity.
1.
Pre-Run Preparation

All run leaders must carry:

A cell phone

Emergency contact list for participants

Knowledge of the run route and nearest hospital/urgent care

Participants must provide emergency contact info during registration.
2.
Types of Emergencies Covered

Medical emergencies (e.g., injury, collapse, dehydration)

Accidents (e.g., traffic incidents)
-
Environmental hazards (e.g., lightning, extreme heat, wild animals)

Missing runners
3.
During an Emergency
If a medical emergency occurs:

Call 911 immediately for serious or life-threatening injuries.

Administer basic first aid if trained and safe to do so.

Assign someone to stay with the injured person.

Send another person to meet emergency responders.

Notify the emergency contact listed by the runner.
If someone is missing:

Attempt contact by phone or messaging app.

Ask nearby runners if they’ve seen the person.
-
If not found within 15–30 minutes, contact local authorities.

Notify emergency contact if needed.
4.
Weather & Environmental Emergencies

Lightning or storm: Cancel run immediately and seek shelter.

Extreme heat or cold: Use judgment. Cancel runs if conditions are dangerous.

Air quality issues: Refer to AQI guidelines; cancel if hazardous.

Incident Reporting

All incidents must be reported to club leadership within 24 hours.
